The following fees are estimated and do not include tournaments or any travel expenses for this upcoming season. The club schedule will be finalized by March 15 of the upcoming season.
New Families
The number one priority of East Carolina Sting Basketball Club, for the youth in our community, is to provide a structured program where they can strive for better health and fitness, and to fight childhood obesity using physical activity through playing the game of basketball.
The number one priority of East Carolina Sting Basketball Club, for our participating families, is to create a safe, age appropriate environment to cultivate a life long love for the game of basketball and to prepare for participation in Competitive Travel Basketball. Travel Basketball provides more opportunity for playing much higher competition and more specific instruction than a recreational program.
The travel Basketball environment is comprised of age appropriate training topics at practice and perspective towards learning and winning. Training should prepare each team to compete at each match. Wins are the byproduct of quality, age-appropriate training and not the main focus.
Players are expected to attend all team activities (training and games) unless there is a conflict such as an academic function or injury which prevents attendance. Teams train twice each week and have two to four games on weekends depending upon the schedule. Agility and conditioning training is also available twice per month to the 9u through 18u teams. We take the common sense approach that a player's playing time is greatly affected by practice attendance, practice participation (being productive), and overall conduct.
***
We stress that ALL High School participants consider Travel basketball
as being their 'Spring Sport'.
Therefore we expect participants to not play other spring sports and use the school week to study since they will spend some of their weekends playing tournaments. This sport is very demanding and it is not fair to other players to have a part-time team mate or playing short 2 or 3 players due to 'other obligations'. Our rosters are subject to change to accommodate the serious players working towards playing at the next level.
** If you disagree, we suggest that you go play travel ball for your main sport **

The specific amount of playing time per game is not pre-defined nor do we practice benching players. We trust that our coaches will follow our guidelines on playing time. Coaches decide who goes in and comes out, and they also decide on who starts. Coaches have a priority first, to get every player in the game, then secondly they have a priority to keeping the team in a solid position for winning the game. This is where it gets sticky, but realize that in a tournament in which your child's team plays three or four games, your child must be able to play at the level sustained by the team and the momentum determined by the game. We believe that your child should be able hold her own for at least 5 minutes of game time (which could be about 7-10 minutes of real time) when she is put in the game so that other players can get a rest.
It
is destructive to a team's chemistry
when there is a player on the court that lacks the skills to pass
effectively, can't dribble without looking down, displays great
difficulty in running offense
plays, or simply guard "their man" on defense. Just as important, every
player will have a schedule for the entire season and is expected to
participate in ALL of the tournaments, even if a parent can not attend.
For example: It is crucial that a team's starting center (who just happens to get 80% of the snaps in practice) plays in all tournaments. If not then our less skilled center is asked to play 30 minutes versus our opponent's starting center who will most likely get our "less skilled" center fouled out of the game very quickly.
We take the common sense approach
that a player's playing time is greatly affected by practice
attendance, practice participation (being productive), decision making
skills, physical stature and ability, and most importantly overall
conduct(being coachable).
A player commits to playing one complete season. The season begins at various times. A season consists of a Conditioning Camp, Pre-Tryout Workouts, Tryouts, Season Tournaments and Team Camps, and a Post Season Individual Skill Camp which is optional and has age group limitations. Players are encouraged to play in November thru March League play if they do not make their school teams.

FCAA East Carolina Sting Players participate in many types of competitions including but not limited to the following. Because of the type of events we participate in, it is mandatory that all parents maintain an updated FCAA On-line Profile for their child(ren).
1. Travel Basketball Tournaments & Scrimmages
2. FCAA Basketball Combines & Video Profiling
3. Individual Skill & Position Camps
4. Team Camps (hosted at local colleges and universities)
5. Exposure Tournaments (College Scouts in attendance)
All East Carolina Sting coaches either already have Certification from NYSCA, The National Youth SportsAssociation Basketball governing body in the United States, Lexis Nexis NCAA Coaches Approval Program, or are in the process of receiving them prior to being assigned to a team. Each has played at a High School level or higher. Coaches
Each team will be assigned a coach who is primarily responsible for that team's training and games. Each team may also receive coaching from another member of the coaching staff or occasional guest coaches during training camps.
To better facilitate communication between East Carolina Sting Basketball Club and parents, we are seeking Age Group Commissioners for each age group – 5U through U18. The Commissioner would send information from the Club to the parents in the age group - changes in schedules, pictures being available, announcements of events, etc. He or she will also facilitate getting information or questions from parents to the Club.
There are currently openings for Registrar and Little Sting Club Directors just to mention a few. For example, the Registrar attends the monthly Board meeting and occasional Executive Committee meetings. The primary Registrar responsibility is overseeing the registration of players with ECSting Youth Basketball and of travel teams with the leagues (USSSA, YBOA, AAU etc.) in which they play.
Coaches and Managers (ECSting Academy)
Our recreational Basketball program needs volunteer coaches for 5U through 18U teams. Younger teams practice one evening a week (either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday), depending on the age group) and play games on Saturday morning. Volunteer coaches receive training before the season starts, and have trainers available to help them on practice nights. The teams also need a parent manager to help with communications to parents, passing out information, etc.
Before every training session and game day, the facility need to be set up - cones and chairs, etc. put in place. If you can do it every session, or just a few, your help is always welcome.
Fundraising volunteers can serve in several ways, depending upon their interests and the amount of time they can devote to it. They can serve on the Fundraising Committee, which plans and oversees various fundraising projects, or help write grants to fund specific programs and activities. Another option is to work on a specific fundraising project, such as selling ECSting fan wear, organizing raffles, and hosting community events.
9U through 15U has up to 12 players per team. 16U and older has up to 15 players per team. In some cases, a coach can request to carry more players after said players have submitted an application and have been accepted by the organization. This guide is used to maximize opportunities for playing time for all players.
As an organization we expect that parents and players understand that if there is only ten players on your team, that you do understand that you can not miss practice or tournaments because the roster is not deep. We are here to develop players that truly want to play.
As for team placement we offer three periods. We use this period to determine who plays on which team. Sting National and Sting Elite Teams do not have development players with NO travel ball experience nor do we allow part time players on those rosters.
1. Fall Try Outs ( October )
Preferred period for new participants as they will have four months to train and fund raise for their upcoming season.
2. Sting Signing Day ( October ~ November )
Open only to returning players. This allows us to prepare and it allows the Sting Player to train and fund raise for their upcoming season.
3. Spring Try Outs ( February ~ March )
Last Chance period for new and returning players. This allows rosters to be completed.
4. Showcase Teams ( SignedSeniors.com)
We showcase! We expect everyone on this team to be sign-able. visit website for details.
On average, the season consists of six to twelve tournaments that are played at home and away games. The home games are usually played at a distance of no more than 1 hours away. Another area of travel may be an out of town tournaments to adjacent states (Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia). As a team gets older and reaches a higher level of play, it may travel more to further distances throughout the USA. Take mind that every team is required to participate in at least 1 (one) out of state tournament during a season. There is also travel required for showcasing our players, which is not optional for members of the showcase SELECT team. showcase tournaments are more defined in our Incoming Sting Brochure.
