Detailed Informational Letter ( pdf ) WELCOME TO ECSting Competitive! Thank you for registering your child(ren) in ECSting Academy. We are very excited about the upcoming season and wish you and your child(ren) a wonderful basketball experience. The following is important information regarding the upcoming season. Please read it in its entirety. Team Formation Your child(ren) will be placed on a particular team first and foremost depending on their age. There are eight age groups: 9U/10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, AND 17U/18U. Please note the age group for your child(ren) and let us know if they have accidentally been placed on a team in the wrong age group. A second criteria used in forming teams is experience level. We aim to have a tournament team along with a practice team from which players can be promoted. Participation numbers could possibly allow for multiple teams. Please note that every effort is made to honor player and coach requests; however, given the constraints indicated above and the number of requests we receive, it is simply not possible to honor all requests.
Team Building the purpose of building teams this way is to try to keep the same team of players together until the players of that team graduate from the program. You will find that it is very difficult to maintain a competitive team when you are rebuilding every year. Once a team of players and families get used to each other, it is better to keep the friendships and team loyalty than it is to build your team with FREE Agents. Everyone has a role in the success of your team and the team is depending on each family to be loyal to the team by attending all practices, fund raising activites, and tournaments. Tournaments can be very draining when your team has to play 3 games in one day with only 6 players. The parents provide the financial and emotional support of their children as they all work towards the dream of obtaining hopefully a scholarship when the team ages out. The coaching staff has a job, which is to develop every player on the team, teach good sportsmanship, and maintain a coaching style that is based on honesty and integrity, and make decisions that are ethically correct. We want to see everyone have fun, basketball is not supposed to be grudge work. Playing Time The amount of playing time is not garuanteed on our teams although the coaching staff for each team is committed to making sure every player plays a reasonable amount of time during any one tournament. Practices All practices locations will be noted on the on-line schedule. The majority of practices will be held at the Garner Road Family YMCA. ( If you need directions ). Non-Travel Teams Players that want to participate in travel basketball but only play in local tournaments will be allowed to participate on our Non-Travel Teams. These players will be allowed to participate on one of our other travel teams if there is a spot available. These teams are formed with the players that did not make travel team and do not want to just be on the practice squad. Travel Teams Players that want to participate in travel basketball will participate in local and out of town tournaments and will be allowed to participate on our Non-Travel Teams. These players will be allowed to participate on one of our other travel teams if there is a spot available due to a team's need for substitutions. These teams run a variable schedule that can consist of very little travel days to a lot of travel days. Travel Team Schedule Players The schedule for every travel team is decided by following a process defined by the club. The current process consists of the head coach presenting the tournaments the tournaments that every team is required to participate in, stated by the club. Second, the head coach can suggest up to 4 tournaments, including the tournament costs and an estimate for the hotel expenses, in which the parents of the team are to select at least 2 tournaments. Third, the parents of the team, using an internet resource such as www.theFCAA.org and www.AAUBB.com, are to select a minimum of 2 tournaments. Take in mind that the club will host tournaments and teams should attend our own tournaments because the competition is coming to us and the travel expenses are thus eliminated. The schedule is open, so you can basically go anywhere your team desires. The only restriction to a team's schedule is that they must play in 1 out of state tournament before the season is over. Practice Squad Players that do not want to participate in travel basketball will be allowed to participate on our practice squads. These players will not be allowed to participate in travel basketball tournaments but can participate in all other activities. The monthly participation fee is $45 that does not include a $25 administrative fee. Coaching/Training A volunteer coach is assigned to each team. This person will coach practices and games. The coaches will receive assistance from qualified age group trainers during practices. Rosters You will be informed of your child(ren)’s team placement the week prior to the first practice. Rosters will be posted here on our team website. Apparel It is an absolute requirement that each player wears the designated team apparel during tournaments. All players are to wear their practice jersey to every practice. Everything your child will need to participate is included in the club equipment kit. Equipment Players are not to bring their own basketball ball to practices. Water Players are required to bring their own water bottle. It delays practices and limits the amount that can be accomplished if players without a water bottle have to run to and from the drinking fountains on a regular basis.
Uniforms Uniforms
are the property of the player and are to be worn soley during tournament games. This uniform can be worn for multiple seasons. (Players are required to have
only clear sports drinks or water- Players will be charged for uniform
replacement because of immovable stains, torn or defaced apparel, or
lost uniforms, etc.) The club will inspect uniforms of returning players, so taking good care of your uniform will save you on annual uniform fees. Players should not wear their uniforms and shooter shirts casually during the off season. Uniforms for Showcase Teams Uniforms will be handed out, during tournaments, before the first game of the day and then collected at the conclusion of the last game of the day. In order to facilitate cleaning of the of team's uniforms. Uniforms will be provided for use soley during tournament games. (Players are required to have only clear sports drinks or water- Players will be charged for uniform replacement because of immovable stains, torn or defaced apparel, or lost uniforms.) The Team Rep will be responsible for levying a $20 fine for any player caught consuming a colored drink. NO EXCEPTIONS. The Family of a player is responsible for the full cost of any uniform that is not returned to the organization. Photographs Photographs are pretty much required for all players for exposure purposes, for media press release, and internet publications. Team Pictures are scheduled for mid schedule of the upcoming season (Note: This schedule is subject to change.) Inclement Weather In case of inclement weather please refer to our local TV station or website www.wraltv.com for gym closure information.
